How to install a travel eSIM on iPhone
Add a travel eSIM, label the line, and review mobile data settings on your iPhone.
Use the instructions supplied with your eSIM alongside your iPhone's setup screens. Confirm compatibility and the plan's validity rule first, then choose the installation method offered for that profile.
Before you start
Check the exact iPhone model and region, and confirm it can use the selected provider. If you are unsure about carrier lock, use the unlocking checklist. Have the installation details and a reliable internet connection ready.
Read when the plan starts. Do not assume that installing early leaves every package unused until arrival.
Add the profile
For a provider-supplied QR code, Apple's current instructions use Settings > Cellular > Add eSIM > Use QR Code. Scan the code and follow the prompts. Apple also supports other provisioning methods in certain situations; use the method supplied for your particular eSIM. See Apple's cellular setup guide.
Menu labels can differ by region and iOS version. If the screen does not match the guide, search Settings for eSIM or consult the current instructions for your phone. Do not scan codes obtained from unrelated websites.
Make each line recognizable
After adding the profile, assign a label that you will understand later. Keep your home line and travel line clearly distinguished. Review the prompts for a default voice line and cellular data; they are separate choices in supported dual-SIM setups.
Apple's dual-SIM guide explains line selection and automatic data switching. Check those settings so the phone uses the connection you intended, especially if you are keeping your home number active.
Review the connection at your destination
When the package is eligible to start and you are in a covered location, enable the travel line and select it for mobile data. Follow the provider's instructions for data roaming and APN settings. The correct value for one eSIM may be wrong for another.
Try a small web request or message. If you remain offline, check the plan status and use the troubleshooting guide. A carrier signal, a completed installation, and a valid data package are separate pieces of the connection.
Keep your installation details private
Do not share the QR code in a public screenshot. Avoid deleting the profile while troubleshooting unless the issuing provider asks you to: whether it can be restored or installed again depends on the profile and service.
For the complete trip checklist, return to preparing to install an eSIM.
